Monday 24th October marks the release of the Mango EP by Dream Cop, the pseudonym of Washington D.C. native, Tommy Davidson.
Featuring 4 original tracks and 3 remixes on the flip, the Mango EP is a dense inward looking listen, built upon immaculately constructed layers of sound. The foggy psychedelia of lead track “Beach City / Carol I Know” interpolates various refrains from Beach Boys songs to create what might be the creative high point of chillwave thus far, while “Marooned” and “Daily Mirage” display an ability to transgress that genre’s characteristics to create something more challenging and cerebral.
Pressed on 12” white label vinyl, the record is strictly limited to just 100 hand-numbered copies. The EP has already received recognition on several renowned sites, including Stereogum, Pitchfork and Altered Zones. || SECRET SPECIAL GUESTS ||
Our headliners have a big show a few days later, so we’re unable to advertise who they are until a closer to the 11th October, but it’s unlikely you’ll get to see such a band in a London venue as small as The Drop any time in the near future.
|| GIRLS NAMES ||
Girls Names formed in Belfast in January 2009 with their first gig booked before the duo had even played together. In their short existence they’ve quickly streamlined their sound, forging their own self-styled “disposable noise pop” reminiscent of the 80s shadow world of Black Tambourine and Felt. They’ve been prolific too, honing their sound over the course of several releases, including an EP on Captured Tracks and a mini album on Tough Love. In November they’ll be releasing a split 7″ with Brilliant Colors through Slumberland, with an album to follow early 2011.
|| COLOURS ||
Colours are lathered up with beastly indie-rock like the good old times used to be, with melodies spilling from under the brim of a perma-fun party hat. One of the best new bands in London at the moment – Rough Trade

Visual perception, fairness, cooperation, spatial reasoning, categorization and inferential induction, moral reasoning, reasoning styles, self-concepts and related motivations, and the heritability of IQ – you will require all of these things, in normal and regulated measures.
Tough Love is proud to announce the release of Young & Research, a free to download 15 track sampler featuring friends, family, old flames and future lovers. Some of these artists we are incredibly close with, others we know only via the hyper-connectivity of the internet. And some are positioned rather ambiguously between the two. Regardless, we love this music with equal rigour.
Released on 13th September, Young & Research is only available to download direct from the Tough Love Bandcamp (link below). However, you are encouraged to share the music in whatever ways you deem fit.
Please don’t confuse my romance for desperation. Please don’t confuse my longing for fear. I’m reaching out a hand. You need to reach back.
There’s room at my mother’s for two. Room for two in a single bed. We can shoot birds or light fires in the entry. And if my ticks become too much, you can look away or read the Argos catalogue.
The tears are yellow and oily, streaming rainbows across crumpling skin.
Through this haze of slow burning sadness, there’s kaleidoscopes, like when fists are pushed into eyes and memories reconfigure as prism patterns. There’s sun spots in the mind’s eye.
History’s written through this pain, until coming out the other side, aching to a slowly dying ebb in a new future.
