BIOGRAPHY

Honeytrap have been steadily forging an exciting and unconventional sound since 2005, embracing elements of klezmer, folk, alt.rock and the more outré elements of pop. Hard to pin down sylistically, the band reflects the diverse musical upbringings of its members.

Having originally formed Honeytrap in Coventry with a different line-up, the core duo of the two Dans (one the big, the other less so) moved to London in 2008 where they were joined by Sophie and John. As likely to be found playing in gardens and art galleries as more conventional music venues, the band place a premium on theatricality in their live set and have gathered a wildly enthusiastic fanbase. Recent gigs have seen the band share a stage alongside such notable acts as Pete And The Pirates, Micachu And The Shapes and The Invisible, as well as support slots with Jeffrey Lewis and Owen Pallett.

Following motivating words of praise from David Bowie, Honeytrap are preparing to release their second album in 2010 through Tough Love Records. Having knuckled down throughout the harsh winter of 2009 in the depths of a Tottenham Hale warehouse next door to London’s main frozen kebab meat distributers, the band emerged into the spring of the new year with 12 new songs and a more ambitious sound. As if reacting to the plastic nature of the fake meat fortressing their studio, new album, Petrushka, named after a Russian fairytale, is a rich and nuanced affair, deftly combining their numerous influences with a rare elan. Once again, Honeytrap are showcasing an ambition that stretches beyond conventional indie parochialism, reaching out with open arms and heads held high.
