SITUATIONISTS
Forming at Sheffield University in late 2006, the Situationists are Dan (vocals, guitar), Sam (guitar, vocals), Nick (bass, vocals) and Ralph (drums, vocals). Situationists deal in complex guitar lines infused with a strong pop sensibility that has seen them accrue a growing fanbase. Influences from across the pond such as American Football or Rival Schools are thrown into the mix along with homegrown artists such as Futureheads or Bloc Party. The band show a particular fondness for harmonised vocals and precise musicianship. The band recorded their first demo in a basement using two microphones bought from Poundland.
Situationists released their debut record This City Holds Us All EP through Tough Love Records as a 4 track 10” and CD set. Adopting the same DIY approach that had brought them success with their first recordings, the band built their own temporary studio and proceeded to record and produce the entire EP without any external assistance.
A number of high profile gigs followed, including a gig in Italy and support slots with The Futureheads, YouthMovies and Future of the Left amongst others. Qualifying for the final of Road to V, the band were featured on Channel 4 and reached their current apotheosis with performances at this years Reading and Leeds festivals. The end of 2008 will also mark the release of a 9 track Japan-only mini-album through 1977 Records, the home for The Horrors and the Rumblestrips.
The band parted ways in May 2009, despite being on the cusp of widespread success.
