‘PARTY HIP HOP’

As Stephen alluded to earlier, those lovely fellows at Rockfeedback/Transgressive invited us to DJ at their new year’s eve party at The Social on, well, new year’s eve. Of course, we were the stars of the show (sure!), but there were also sets from Johnny Flynn and Ed Harcourt, with Harcourt particularly endearing himself to the crowd with his covers of “Like A Virgin” and “Livin’ On A Prayer” through a loop pedal.
We played some songs pre-bands for the keenest of revelers (i.e. those who started boozing early) and received some serious props for following Tough Love favourite “You’re So Vain” with “Lipgloss”. I thought that was pretty standard new year fair.
After the traditional murdering of Auld Lang Syne, the ‘Clock Club’ element of the night kicked in, based on the inspired premise of changing musical style/genre/theme every 30 minutes. Dan Rockfeedback kicked things off playing an ’80′s classics’ set – “Let’s Dance” and “Call Me Al” seeing in 2010? Yeah, I can get behind that. After Tim and Toby Transgressive nailed half an hour of indie hits, we stepped up with ‘Party Hip Hop’. Our setlist is below and we’ve put a link to Spotify too:
Warren G – “Regulate”
Notorious BIG – “Hypnotize”
Kanye West – “Touch the Sky”
Ol’ Dirty Bastard – “Got Your Money”
Beastie Boys – “Intergalactic”
House of Pain – “Jump Around”
Jay Z – “Big Pimpin”
Outkast – “B.O.B”
Beastie Boys – “Girls”
The second airing of a Beastie Boys track happened as the next DJ wasn’t quite ready – it’s not cos we’re shameless white boy hip hop Elvis’ (it is).
Alcohol and embarrassment mean I have to end the story here, but, needless to say, a massive thank you again to Rockfeedback and Trangressive.
Sometimes this job can be too much fun. I now partly understand Dave Stewart having therapy for being too happy.
