BEACH FOSSILS – “DESERT SAND”

Ordinarily, Beach Fossils are a fairly on-point lo-fi surf band, all tied up with the cool kids at Captured Tracks. So far, so good, so of the moment.

What makes this version of “Desert Sand” especially noteworthy is that some genius has decided to slow the song to half speed, in doing so, replacing the sprightly chimes of the original with some super dark cosmic vibes that’s akin to a body-draining slow motion waltz with The Cramps through the Sahara.

Wherever it is that Beach Fossils are from, they don’t sound like they’ve seen water for a while. And wherever it is they’re going, they’re gonna take their sweet (half)time getting there.

Thanks to Conan from Italian Beach Babes for pointing us in the direction of this song. It’s worth checking out IBB’s Big Cartel, as it’s pretty much the cheapest place in the UK to get Captured Tracks/Art Fag/Zoo et al imports.
