Following the release of two 12″ singles and an EP over the past twelve months, Preston duo White Flowers will release their debut album, Day By Day, on 7th May. Watch the self-directed video for new single, ‘Daylight’, here.
Recorded and co-produced with Jez Williams from Doves in his Manchester studio, Day By Day sees White Flowers lean into their northern heritage, channeling a kind of industrial gothic, both monochrome and diaphanous. “We don’t like it when things are clean or overproduced” explains singer Katie Drew, whose near-glossolalia vocal adds an element of mystery to these grand songs. “There’s something interesting in the instinctive nature of the first thing you sing, because you don’t really know what you’re singing until it comes out and it makes sense.” That psychographic-style process to writing informs a collection of songs that are at once both intuitive and fully-formed, also reflected in the artwork and videos, all of which are made by the band too.
Along with CD and digital formats, Day By Day will receive a few vinyl pressings, including a hand-numbered edition of 600 Dinked exclusive on white vinyl with a bonus 7″ and photo zine. Pre-order here
